7° RALLY LEGEND

REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO

The long evenings spent talking about rallies among friends,great and small stories experienced on the field, competitions and much desire to live-at least once in a life-time the magic moments of this speciality again, through an evocative meeting.

Two enthusiastic friends talk about their great passion;one is of notable business ability, well known on a national level,the other with aquaintances and friends in the sector, the fruit of passion and experience.

And here is the idea!

The setting: S.Marino of course,the cult place for those who are inflamed by this speciality. One thousand stories are entwined in the Republic of the Titan, Italian championships won or lost in the last PS, world championship roots from the good old times, and a host of champions who remember taking part in that Rally. And let's not forget the earth, that dear old earth, so much loved by true Rally competitors.

A happy recurrent event, in October, a valid collaboration with a Sports Federation which is both dynamic and intelligent, a host of champions and friends at the starting point, the most beautiful Rally cars of the golden years, a magnificent sunlit day, an "old time" competition, magic everywhere ...ok we can do it...The Rallylegend is born!!! 

Rallylegend 2009, once again the Republic of San Marino is the core of the international rally world’s attentions and a crowd of enthusiasts is foreseen to invade the country from all over Europe.

The 2008 edition of Rallylegend has been very much hearty, maybe the best since the far away 2003, when everything started.

Right because of this and on the basis of what happened in the past editions, we commit every year to find new initiatives, pages of history, exciting moments that the history of rallies gave us in past years.

Looking towards the future but without forgetting the past - which is the true beating heart of Rallylegend - for the 2009 edition, we have thought to experimentally bring the participation of ten WRC cars, built until 1999 and which will race with classification apart.

Since 1997, the WORLD RALLY CARS (WRC) “upset” what until that moment had been the usual scenario of the absolute rally cars, the A group’s, bringing back to the memory of enthusiasts, with the due proportions, the cars that generated them, the legendary B group’s. It has for sure been an important step in the history of rally and this is why we think it important to retrace that route again.

The recent loss of Massimo Ercolani, the most well-known and fastest rallyman of San Marino, has inspired the idea of associating this trophy to his name. A due tribute to a champion but above all to a friend, who inaugurated the first edition of Rallylegend with the 0 number on the doors of the 037 and who left good traces on the roads of the San Marino Rally in the recent past, right on the first WRCs.

With these cars, champions of the level of Marcus Grönholm, Juha Kankkunen, Piero Liatti, Fabrizio Tabaton will compete one against the other; these drivers were challenging on the rally world championship’s special stages up until a few years ago!

This will be just one of the innovations that we have prepared and that we have been processing during the winter with our precious partner Miki Biasion. Among the many initiatives, a special DVD will be presented, “The Best of Rallylegend”, with the most beautiful and thrilling images of the past six editions, enriched by interviews and unreleased contents. Absolutely not to be missed!!

As usual, there will be important names of the international rally scenario, one for all the former winner of many English Rally Championships, Jimmy McRae, dad of the unforgotten Colin and of Alister and the return to the competition of Tony Carello, European champion on the Lancia Stratos in 1978, with many others.

Curious and amusing will be the presence of characters of the MotoGP. Among the exceptional course drivers there will indeed be one of our best actors of the queen category, Alex De Angelis, who will be matched by the presence of Guido Meda and Loris Reggiani, the TV commentators of the MotoGp, beyond Graziano Rossi and Davide Brivio, dad and team manager respectively of Valentino.

In addition to all this, there will be, as usual, the most beautiful cars of the history of rallies and a larger and larger patrol of foreigners, in which a nourished group of Germans, Finns, French, Spanish and Slovakians will give that touch of internationality to the event.

Once again, we trust in an edition on top of expectations.

We rightly thank the Secretary of State for Tourism and Sport of San Marino, the C.O.N.S. (San Marino Olympic Committee) and the FAMS (Motoring Federation of San Marino): with their precious interest, they assisted once again the accomplishment of this event, by now renowned at world level.

Another sincere thank you goes to the sponsors for their support, in particular to the new ones which add up to the historical ones. Despite the particularly difficult economical moment that we are experiencing, all have committed with enthusiasm, supporting us with new passion in order to obtain the best results through new projects and achieve the new goals we have in schedule.

Finally, we cannot forget a warm thank you and embrace to the many spectators, who every year regularly spur and sustain us; to them, we dedicate this 7th edition, wishing them and all the protagonists to live another epic unforgettable week-end made of pure sports adrenalin.
